    NOTICE SAL & LEGION RIDERS MEETING CHANGE:
    Meetings for our SAL and Legion Riders will be changed starting this next month, Legion riders on the 3rd SUNDAY of each month.  SAL Meeting times are the same, Be There!

    OUR ORIGINAL MEMORIAL PLAQUES: View images of our American Legion Post397 Plaques that were recently restored. These plaques will soon be erected in our Legion hall for all to see. They had been outside in front for these many years and were in bad shape. Now they are like new.

    CREVE COEUR DAYS JUNE 23-26.  The SAL will once again be working a food tent at Creve Coeur Days. Volunteers are needed! Come out and support the SAL and enjoy Creve Coeur Days. Contact Marc Knapp for more information. A Sign Up Sheet will be posted at the Post Home

    MEMBERSHIP
    Our membership supports the following programs which are of interest and importance to veterans:
    • Advocacy for a strong national defense
    • Education in patriotism and Americanism programs
    • Children and Youth programs

    SAL DONATION of $1,000 to our Veterans' Home.  Presented by SAL CDR John Buckner (L) and Marc Knapp (L) to Legion Veterans' Affair Officer Ben Hunter.


    SAL AWARD PLAQUE FOR 1ST IN STATE
    Check out the 1st place Plaque for our Sons of the American Legion Squadron 397.  Great Job Men.  You really deserved this.  We are all very proud of you!!! Also, the Commander presented a $1,000 check to the 10th District Service Officers Fund.  Thanks for SAL Squadron 397 for their support.

    POPPY QUEEN MISS PAYTON GREENSLATE FOR 2016:
    This new years Queen, Payton Greenslate
    .  The Poppy honors the men and women who have served in the US Armed Services.  It is usually celebrated before Memorial Day.  Our Auxiliary provides poppies for the benefit of disabled and needy Veterans.  The money collected is used for medical and educational services.  After WWI, the poppy became the symbol of the tragedy of war and the renewal of life.  Support the Auxiliary Unit 397 poppy fund and wear your poppy proudly.

     CHICKEN WINGS SPECIAL:  Every Thursday between 5:00pm and 8:00pm we are having a special wings wing-ding event.  You get a full pound of wings for only six dollars.  This event is sponsored by our SAL.  Come and enjoy!

     SAL MEETING NIGHT CHANGE: Meetings have changed to the 4th Thursday of each month at 7:00PM.  Be there, no excuses (:-)) 

    SAL MEMBERSHIP:  We finished 2012 at 100% of Goal(132). Membership cards for 2013 are available now, and dues are considered delinquent after December 31, 2012.  SAL memberships renewal notices have been mailed but the actual payments must be sent the Squadron Adjutant for processing: Mike Monaco @ 12520 Postgrove Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146 or see any SAL officer while visiting the Post. Your card will then be mailed to you.

     


    Membership Eligibility

    All male descendants, adopted sons and stepsons of members of The American Legion,and such male descendants of veterans who died in service during World War I,World War II, Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada,Panama, and the Persian Gulf War, during the delimiting periods set forth in Article IV, Section 1,of the National Constitution of The American Legion, or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for membership in the Sons Of The American Legion. There shall be no forms or class of membership except an Active Membership.

    Five Point Program of Service

    THE FIVE STAR AWARD

    The Five-Star Award for all members of the Sons of the American Legion who show perfection in the Five-Point Program of Service is a gold plated medal bearing the SAL Emblem and the symbolism of the Five-Points

    POINT ONE: PATRIOTISM - Love of Flag, Love of Country A star for Patriotism to the member who shows a knowledge of the history of the Flag, the proper ways of displaying it, and the proper respect due it.
    POINT TWO: CITIZENSHIP - Individual Obligation of Citizenship A star for Citizenship to the member who by his usefulness in activities outside the program of the SAL displays a working knowledge of the qualities of a good citizen
    POINT THREE: DISCIPLINE - Respect for and obedience to rules A star for Discipline to the member who in all his activities shows respect for rules and obedience to them.
    POINT FOUR: LEADERSHIP - Participation in group activities A star for Leadership to the member who develops the qualities of leadership in athletics, drill formations, and church activities.
    POINT FIVE: LEGIONISM - Knowledge of The American Legion A star for Legionism to the member who thoroughly understands the ritualistic work and the program of actities for the SAL

    Preamble to the SAL National Constitution

    Proud possessors of a priceless heritage, we male descendants of veterans of the great wars, associate ourselves together as "Sons of The American Legion" for the following Purposes: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; To maintain Law and Order; To foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism; To preserve the memories of our former members and the association of our members, and our forefathers in the Great Wars; To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the Community, State & Nation; To combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; To make right the master of might; To promote peace and good will on earth; To safeguard the transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; To consecrate and sanctify our friendship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; To adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which the American Legion stands; To assist in carrying on for God and Country.
